Using number talks to improve student numeracy development -

Abstract

Middle primary years (8 to 11 years) and early secondary (12 to 15 years).

This session will introduce participants to a high-yield numeracy instructional strategy called Number Talks. Number Talks (Ruth Parker and Cathy Humphreys) have been shown to support the development of student flexibility in working with numbers.

Participants in this workshop will engage with Number Talks as learners and will be mentored in using this instructional strategy in their practice. Scripts and sample number talks will be provided to participants so that they can begin using this strategy in their classes immediately.
