Promoting students’ reasoning in mathematics classrooms -

Workshop presented by John Francisco.

Abstract

In this workshop, participants will work collaboratively on mathematical tasks and reflect on their mathematical activity as a context for identifying strategies for supporting students’ mathematical reasoning and understanding in classrooms.

Learning objectives

  1. How to choose reasoning-rich tasks
  2. How to implement tasks effectively
  3. How to generate rich mathematical discussions

Experience/Expertise: John Francisco is a professor of mathematics educator at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the US. His work focuses on how students reason and build mathematical ideas while working collaboratively on mathematical tasks.
