The Blues Sports Awards committee are responsible for awarding athletes for their achievements each year.
The committee is made up of 7 to 10 Massey staff members with passion and expertise for sport.
History of the Blues Awards
Massey University has been recognising excellence in sporting achievement with the Blues Awards since 1934.
In 1990, Massey University set up the formal Blues Sports Awards committee, who are responsible for awarding athletes each year.
Non-athletes (for example coaches, officials or umpires) are celebrated with the Sporting Excellence Award.
The University’s distance study options have been useful for athletes competing nationally and internationally. Students don’t need to choose between their sporting success and study. They can fit their learning around their sporting commitments.
Since 1990, Massey alumni like Lisa Carrington, Sarah Hirini (nee Goss) and Hamish Kerr have been recognised for their international sporting achievements during study.
