Terms and conditions for the digital worlds international design competition prizes.

These terms and conditions relate to and govern the digital worlds international design competition administered by Massey University.

Through the competition, Massey will provide the opportunity for up to 8 students, currently studying in years 11 and 12 in secondary schools in Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, China, Korea, Qatar or UAE to win either:

  • 1 of 5 Wacom Intuos Pro Medium tablets or;
  • 1 of 8 NZD $10,000 fee discounts toward study in the Massey University Bachelor of Screen Arts or the Massey University Bachelor of Design at Massey University.

The purpose of the competition is to:

  • provide students with the opportunity to obtain either a Wacom tablet or a fee discount on these terms; and
  • promote Massey University to potential students who are or may wish to study in New Zealand including those currently based overseas.

The competition opens on 1 September 2026 and closes at 3pm on 1 November 2026 New Zealand time.

Entry into the competition

In order to be eligible to enter the competition, students must be:

  • enrolled at a secondary school in Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, China, Korea, Qatar or UAE
  • in Year 11 or Year 12
  • aged between 16 and 18 years at the time of entry
  • on track to meet the minimum entry requirements for admission into either the Bachelor of Screen Arts or Bachelor of Design at Massey University.

To enter the competition, students must provide the following information by 3pm on 1 November 2026 New Zealand time:

  • Proof that they are enrolled in Year 11 or 12 at an international school in Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, China, Korea, Qatar or UAE.
  • Write a 300-word maximum outline of your digital world explaining its history, culture, inhabitants, ecosystem and more.
  • Submit a hero image of your world. 300dpi suitable for judging and display online, named with your first and last name.
  • Submit an optional supplementary A3 page of images and explanatory notes of detailed features of your world.

Selection of winners and notification

  • Massey will select up to 5 winners for the Wacom tablets from the valid entries. These will be ordered and posted directly to the home address provided on your submission entry form. Massey is not liable for any damage or loss incurred as part of the delivery process. Massey's decision is final.
  • Massey will select up to 8 winners for the NZD $10,000 fee discount toward study in the Bachelor of Screen Arts or the Bachelor of Design at Massey University.
  • Winners of the fee discount must enrol to study in 2027 or 2028 in the Bachelor of Design or the Bachelor of Screen Arts for the fees discount to be applied to your student fees account.
  • Fee discounts will be applied after the Census (withdrawal) date for your qualification of study.
  • Winners will be notified by the email included in the submission entry.
  • Massey University’s decision is final.
  • Winners will not receive a cash credit for the value of the award fee discount or prize. The prize and the fee discount are non-transferable.
  • Massey will allow deferrals to the next semester for enrolled students if visa delays occur.

Eligibility 

  • Students must meet all of the eligibility criteria set out in these terms to be eligible for a prize for the competition.
  • Students who receive a fee discount award may not be eligible to hold multiple scholarships concurrently. Massey University reserves the right to determine eligibility and award conditions at its discretion.
  • Employees of Massey University and their immediate family members are ineligible to enter the competition.
  • Massey University reserves its right to remove any person from contention of receiving a prize from the competition, for any reasonable reason and at any time.
  • Massey University reserves its right to immediately disqualify the student as the winner and to select another student. If at any time Massey University identifies that:
    • the submission of the winner contains incorrect or incomplete information; or
    • the winner is ineligible to participate in the competition in accordance with these terms; or
    • the winner has breached its obligations under these terms.

Permissions

  • If selected as 1 of the winners, the student may be contacted by Massey University to publish their name and photograph on the Massey University website in connection with any content regarding the competition.
  • Any personal data collected as part of the application to this initiative will not be sold or disclosed to third parties for purposes other than those related to delivering the competition.
  • We will collect, hold and use your personal information in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act.

  • In this regard, you may contact Massey University at any time at privacy@massey.ac.nz to view the personal information we hold about you. You are also entitled to request that errors in your personal information are corrected.

Liability 

  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, Massey University will not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for personal injury as a result of your participation in the competition.
  • You agree to indemnify, and keep indemnified, Massey University against all claims, demands, costs (including legal costs on a solicitor and client basis), losses, expenses and damages arising out of your participation in the competition.
  • If any act, omission, event or circumstance occurs which is beyond the reasonable control of Massey University and which prevents Massey University from complying with these terms and conditions, Massey University will not be liable for any failure to perform or delay in performing its obligations.
